Air Algerie Selects Rockwell's Avionics Suite for 13 new aircraft

Par Aeronautique.ma / Communiqué, le 16 Juillet 2014

Air Algérie, the national airline of Algeria, has selected a comprehensive Rockwell Collins avionics suite for 13 new aircraft, including three Airbus A330s and 10 Boeing 737s.

Rockwell Collins’ new MultiScan ThreatTrack™ weather radar, which provides unprecedented capabilities for assessing lightning, hail and turbulence, will be featured on Air Algérie’s Airbus A330 aircraft.

“With MultiScan Threat Track, Air Algérie pilots will benefit from the most advanced technology for avoiding turbulence and other damaging weather threats and be better equipped to precisely navigate challenging approaches,” said Claude Alber, vice president and managing director, Europe, The Middle East, and Africa (EuMEA) for Rockwell Collins.

MultiScan ThreatTrack goes beyond hail and lightning prediction within a thunderstorm cell and alerts pilots to these significant threats adjacent to the cell. If thunderstorms are growing ahead of and below the aircraft, ThreatTrack’s Predictive Overflight™ protection warns the flight crew if the cells will be in the aircraft’s flight path.

Air Algérie’s new Boeing 737 aircraft will include Rockwell Collins’ Link 2000+ solution to comply with Eurocontrol’s Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) airspace requirement. Rockwell Collins’ Link 2000+ solution for air transport aircraft consists of its industry-leading VHF-2100 Very High Frequency Transceiver, CMU-900 Communications Management Unit, APM-900 Aircraft Personality Module and CPDLC-enabling software.

“The CPDLC mandate deadline is quickly approaching and Air Algérie will be ready,” said Alber. “Our efficient Link 2000+ solution ensures compatibility, which will improve air traffic capacity and management throughout Europe.”

Also included in Air Algérie’s selection are Rockwell Collins’ GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR)--the first ever certified GPS Landing System receiver, automatic detection finder (ADF), distance measuring equipment (DME) and VOR short-range radio navigation system.
